A collage of singer-songwriter Mikaben as the new frontman for the band Carimi at Rutgers University last night. The show was a production of HARU, the Haitian Association at Rutgers University, which was celebrating two decades of existence.

The website HaitianBeatz captured the videos below of the singer taking over the stage. He looks confident, like someone who’s fully aware that he’s got humongous shoes to fill, but who has made up his mind that he will fill them, but plans on also bringing his own pair too, when the time calls for it.

According to those present, the opening song was “Fanm Move”, a song Mikaben wrote for the band. It was rather appropriate, as his vocals are on the non-live version. It’s a crowd-pleaser, and looking into the crowd, the majority of the band’s fans are females…fanm moves.

There seems to be a lot of chemistry between Mr. Ben and the other Carimi boys. From the cardigan outfits to the stage connection…to the music. This whole Mikaben-Carimi collaboration will be an interesting thing for Haitian music fans to watch. I wonder if this is something that has occurred before in the genre…where a lead singer has to take a break, and another singer steps in. Wishing there was a Haitian music encyclopedia to look things up sometimes…

Meanwhile…wishing the other singer well as he prepares his return.

Dawn Richard is an avant-guard artist, so it’s not surprising that she’s way ahead of the game when it comes to live performances. The singer-songwriter gave Youtube Live 360 Performance feature its first-ever show. Dawn Richard and Youtube…two innovators coming together!

Jason Derulo teamed up with acapella group Pentatonix to record the song “If I Ever Fall In Love”, originally recorded by R&B group Shai in the early 1990s. Sometimes people forget what a great vocalist Jason is. And Pentatonix is dope too, now. Jason Derulo + Pentatonix= gold.

The Haitian-American’s Guide to The Haitian-American’s Guide to Some (Legally) Free Movies and Some Documentaries! Now, that was quite a title, wasn’t it? So…like…yeah… Want to get acquainted with Haitian movies?

Here’s a link below where you can legally watch some by directed by Haiti filmmaker and screenwriter Richard Senecal.

Most of them have English subtitles, but try to concentrate on what is being said as much as you can…as opposed to the translation. Don’t be lazy. Work that Creole…Kreyol.

Macho Man, Richard Senecal’s new short film comes right on the tail of his documentary El Violinista. Written and produced by the director, Macho Man stars a cast of seven: Guy Samy Jean-Pierre, Kettia Dortilus, Clivens Jacques, Laweens Fonrose, Ronaljy Jacques, Eric Michel and Kerlyne Dortilus. Thankfully, it’s subtitled in English for your viewing pleasure. The film makes witty commentary about the use and implications of social media in Haiti.

The director is set to release the aforementioned El Violionista, a documentary a young man drawn by the violin and classical music, later on this year.

Phyllisia Ross’ latest music video “You and Me” is out now! In the vid, directed by Abdias Laguerre, who also helmed the video version of last track “Only For You”, the singer dons a Bohemian getup and looks very laid back. The director and singer have teamed up to create yet another popping visual. The song was co-written by Miss Ross and her collaborator Marvens Yesso.
