What time is it? It’s time to explore fashion as worn by some Kreyolicious celebrities. The band in question today is going to be…T-Vice. Yee-yay!

One of the T-Vice lead singers sports a pair of jeans, perfect for nighttime partying.

This look says tropical and island and Caribbean all over it. The boys in T-Vice are definitely wearing popping colors. With this look, the band demonstrates that a little color here and there can work, and will take nothing away from one’s masculinity.

The band gives tribute to 18th Century fashion in this photo, from their dramatic diagonal hats to tight pants.

Here the boys of T-Vice are dressed for a night of performing. They favor the long-sleeved shirt look. Rather than dressing alike, each frontrunner sport their own style. They choose to wear shirts that can transition easily from casual to semi-formal.

Ooh, I like this look. The boys don solid yet comfortable kicks to walk around and perform in. They have a penchant for hoodies and comfortable clothing.

And this concludes this edition of Kreyolicious’ Celebrity Style segment. See you guys next time!

One of the album’s grooviest is the “Se Pa Sa” (That Ain’t It), featuring singer-songwriter JPerry. This song sound soooo unlike anything on the album. It’s a party song, and not the type of party that has a dozen people or anything, but a multi-city block party that starts in a small neighborhood and grows. And grows…until the entire world’s population joins in. “Voye Monte”, the second of the album’s three collaborations and featuring singer-rapper PJay, commands attention from its first notes. It’s like this song comes accompanied with some extra fire.

T-Vice is all about having a good time, but there are emotional moments such as on the song “Moving On”. A relationship comes tumbling, a child is involved, and three lives are infinitely altered. “Moving On” divulges a torn man’s innermost feelings. The track is about a man’s hurt that’s pummeling him to shreds, and the irreversible pain that comes with a life change as major as a devastating divorce. For all the sorrow conveyed in “Moving On”, at its core is resignation and acceptance.

I liked “Eske” (Will You?) as a companion song to “Moving On”. “Eske” is about picking up the pieces after the terrible emotional loss conveyed in “Moving On”. “Eske” asks opportune questions, “Can one’s heart be put at risk? Is it worth it to dip in again in this thing called love?”—especially when one estimates that previous damage hasn’t quite yet been satisfactorily mitigated. There are some really ingenious guitar work from guitarist Berto on this track.

“Konfli” maneuvers Nou Tounen Pi Fò from love to social problems. Call it the album’s Haiti song. T-Vice calls for unity, progression, and for an end to ratchetness. “Ou Ou Poko Flannè” (You’re Not A Player Yet) competes with “Se Pa Sa” in terms of being the album’s most dance-friendly track. It’s not as boisterous though. “Se Pa Sa” has this roots/world music sound to it that “Ou Poko Flannè” lacks. But on the other hand, there’s this mellifluousness in “Ou Poko Flannè” that “Se Pa Sa” shuns.

“This Time 4 Real” is about a man who’s declaring his forever love to a woman. Does this mean the scars mentioned in “Eske” have fully been operated on? And, should it be understood that at this point the “Moving On” process has come full circle? “This Time 4 Real” casts aside fears and welcomes new beginnings in the love arena. But those same fears and insecurities are revived in “J’en Ai Marre” (I’m Fed Up), a track with 5Lan. The narrator has a laundry list of complaints against his pressure-imposing, insecure, jealousy-and-resentment-prone girlfriend. She’s constantly having things whispered in her ears, and she’s quick to believe them all.

This band has two lead singers and they both bring their own flavor to Nou Tounen Pi Fò, and T-Vice seems to know how to bring the best out of the both of them. In the song “Ou Renmen Sa”, for instance, the candy-coated voice of singer Regi will bring a smile to the lips of the most callous-hearted woman. The same can be said of the sweet ballad “Eske”. On songs like “Se Pa Sa”, “Voye Monte”, “”J’en Ai Marre” co-lead singer Roberto Martino will impel the biggest kored, the biggest party-pooper, to the dance floor.

The Haitian music world woke up with the news that Co-lead singer Regi “Regi Muzik” Toussaint, and Haitian band T-Vice had parted ways. Both parties issued out statements, with Regi Muzik graciously thanking T-Vice for providing him with a great opportunity, and T-Vice thanking the singer for his services and wishing him well on all his future endeavors. The T-Vice family not too long ago released an album with Regi Muzik as co-lead singer entitled Nou Toujo Pi Fò.

It all started with a simple yet earth-shaking sentence on Instagram for T-Vice fans: “I am no longer part of T-Vice Band”.

The singer later posted a more elaborate note, stating that he would now concentrate on finishing his business degree. He’s in his last semester in undergrad, and was balancing school with his T-Vice singer responsibilities. While it isn’t yet clear what he’s going to undertake next, he does have booking information details in his Instagram bio.

Fans on social media have been speculating as to why the separation took place.

In a video that Roberto Martino, band founder and co-lead singer of T-Vice released, he stated that Regi Mizik was dismissed as part of a “business decision”. He further stated that the T-Vice staff management had requested that Regi Muzik make some “adjustments” to his stage presence, make it more dynamic. But according to Martino, the singer didn’t do so to their satisfaction, and he and his fellow founders and management staff felt that they couldn’t give him any additional time to fit in with the group’s style.

As for Regi Mizik himself, other than stating that he was no longer with the band, he didn’t indicate why the T-Vice chapter came to and end.

According to comments on social media, some felt that Regi Mizik’s romantic and mellow style did not fit in with T-Vice’s more rambunctious style. But, it had seemed to most observers that Regi was easing his way quite well into T-Vice’s musical format, and was at least bringing in something new. He certainly had the vocal talent to succeed as a member of the band. The aforementioned album Nou Tounen Pi Fò, featured him singing lead on several tracks, including the gorgeous ballad “Èske”, was released about a year ago. Was a year sufficient time to allow Regi to be fully molded into a T-Vicer?

Prior to joining T-Vice, Regi Mizik was a member of the group Enposib. That band recently released an album. Will Regi Mizik rekindle that musical link? It would seem to most that the Enposib band is well-settled and have come into their own since then. Would they rule out bringing Regi Mizik back in?

But then again, perhaps the Enposib chapter is a chapter that Regi is well over. Will he finish his degree, take some take to contemplate, as he stated, and then form his own group?

Photo Credit: Regi “Regi Muzik” Toussaint during a performance with the group T-Vice. Oli Photographie

As for T-Vice, there’s been some industry speculation that they may either continue without a second lead singer, or bring back Olivier Duret, a former member of T-Vice. But Duret has also turned the T-Vice chapter, having started his own band Dat7.

Above: Regi Muzik performing with the T-Vice crew at a music festival. Photo Credit: Jessie Al-Khal Instagram

Some have called Regi’s inclusion in T-Vice an experiment. Is T-Vice willing to do additional experiments? Bring in another singer? Bring in a female singer?

The future of both parties is brighter than Miami city lights. Regi Muzik seems to have a great mind for lyrics, but also also has great business acumen. From Smokey Robinson and the Miracles to modern times, it isn’t the first time a singer has parted ways with a band, and it certainly won’t be the last. It’s vital that Regi Muzik ponders very deeply on his next move, and seek out astute advisors before making his next move.

T-Vice recently celebrated their 25th year of existence on the Haitian music scene, a very significant milestone. It will be interesting to see where both parties head next.

You must avoid all contact with non-infected persons, as T-Vice fever is airborne, and very, very contagious.

You’re driving to class, and all over sudden you hear the sound of a helicopter hovering above. Your first reaction is to pull in the emergency lane, and start doing the helicopter dance.

T-Vice au zénith

You wake up in the middle of the night, just because you thought of the perfect music video scenario for the latest
T-Vice single. You quickly jot down the notes. The ideas are coming faster than you can write. Your eyes are bloodshot from lack of sleep, but you delightfully act out all the parts first in your room, then in the hallway. Since this is your fantasy, your video treatment, your idea…Of course, you cast yourself as the leading lady/video girl.

You go back in time in your mind sometimes and think of those dreadful days before you became a T-Vice fan, and you wonder to yourself, “How did I ever live?”

You dream endlessly of being Mrs. Martino, although something in the back of your mind tells you that you’re probably missed the boat on that one. But you push the thought out of your mind. Now, back to your fantasy! Which brother? It doesn’t matter, you tell yourself. Long as you grab yourself a Martino. You even went to great lengths of trying to figure out how you’re going to get along with MamaVice. You feel it’s a necessity to get on her good side.

But so what if you can’t get one of the bruhs? There are other attractive options. Mrs. Amazan. Mrs. Kebreau. Mrs. Cardozo. Mrs. Viau. Mrs. Duret. They all sound good to you. With so many choices, what’s a girl to do?

T-Vice au zénith

You are the self-appointed, executive director of the T-Vice International Fan Club. And you’re also vice president, CFO, CTO, CMO, CIO, and president-for-life.

You have accumulated so many miles from Southwest Airlines, cause you fly wherever the band plays. And when we say wherever, we mean wherever. Bercy, you’re there. Miami, you’re there. Brooklyn, you’re there. Atlanta, you’re there. Guadeloupe, you’re there. Petionville? You’re there pi rèd.

Treatment and Cure

Say what? You don’t want to be treated. You’d rather be sick with that fever? Is that what you’re telling me. Well, have it your way then. Let that fever keep rising to 110 degrees. See if I care.

Special Note: Since the writing of this article, Olivier Duret has left T-Vice to pursue other creative goals.
