Jean-Nicolas Nissage Saget succeeded Sylvain Salnave as President of Haiti in 1869. Coming into power by coup, however, it is on March 19th, 1870 that the National Assembly elected General Nissage Saget as President of Haiti for a term of four years, the first president of the country to serve out his full term of office.
