After several attempts from the slaves in a quest to gain their freedom, the slave rebellion that started in August 1791 was successful and led them to their freedom on that faithful day of January 1st 1804. The French colonial slave regime led by Napoleon was chased out of St-Domingue, rebellion led by Toussaint Louverture.
