Flav Gabel is doing it again, and this time he’s partnering with singer Bensky—Before it was Jim Rama.

Goodness. This isn’t starting out right. They’re having a spat in the car. He’s driving.

Oh, no. She’s trying to get out of the car. That’s not good.

He does what any gentleman who really loves his girl would do…he gets out of the car too, and tries to plead with her. “I know we’ve been through it girl”. Now, when a guy says that it’s usually really wanting to say, “I know I’ve been putting you through it girl.”

He’s not going to let her go so easily.

But looks like the argument is getting more intense.

She’s not really accepting his excuses, explanations and mea culpas.

Oh, no. Not the hand!

Meanwhile, his homie is having a hard time with his own girl.

The two dudes unite to mourn their relationship woes.

Ooh, look at her…and him.

Nothing like a serenade in the night. Fight for the women you love fellas.

Look at him, explaining away his behavior.

They talked it over, and talked it over some more.

And now…

After a lot of begging and pleading…things are finally looking up again.

A few hood moves, and a little begging goes a long way.

There’s nothing more uniting than the brotherhood. They teamed up together to beg their girls to come back, and they have.

Look at them now…looking all happy.

Let’s get to know Haitian groups and bands, and isn’t fashion the best way to get a perspective of whom they are?

Today’s Kreyolicious fashion spotlight will shine on the group named Gabel. Let’s see now…

The crew in their suits!

The band’s co-lead singer isn’t shy when it comes to experimenting with colors. Here he is in a sun-yellow, long-sleeved shirt and form-fitting jeans.

The members sport the title of their newest albums.

The Gabel boys looking very debonair in their custom suits and pink bow ties.

One of the singers hide his eyes behind some bright shades, while the band’s drummer goes for a casual nylon jacket thrown over a gray shirt.

One of the lead singers wears a yellow pants that pop, and a flashy mohawk. Hater blockers on deck.

Band members show their individuality through distinctive get-ups.

The band’s drummer sports a striped top over khakis! And a light gold necklace and playful wristband.

The boys of Gabel are dressed for traveling! Hoodies that can easily come off in hot weather or that can be pulled close in case the weather gets extra cold.

And this is Gabel! Aren’t the boys of Gabel looking Kreyolicious at every turn?

Infertility is the big story in Haitian band Gabel’s latest song “PKFP”, the acronym for Pa Ka Fè Pitit (Can’t Birth Babies). What a great idea! And how brave of this band to come forward with a song on this sensitive, nearly taboo subject in some circles and communities.

Turns out that infertility is becoming a major preoccupation even for people in their twenties and thirties! According to WCNC.com, more and more Millennial-aged women are freezing their eggs, and women are getting married later and later in life, and putting off having children. The fear of infertility is so strong, The Knowridge Science Report stated that more employers are offering egg freezing as a health benefit for their employees.

What Gabel has done essentially, has been to take this increasing problem and turn it into a sort of anthem–albeit private anthem. Will this song be a dancefloor hit? Or will it be one of those songs that couples comfort themselves with in the privacy of their homes? There’s this stigma with infertility and all.

I could not help but be reminded of another song called “Pitit Deyò”, that figured on my list of Top Haitian Music Baby Mama Drama songs. People may sing and dance along to “Pitit Deyò” in public, but I wonder if they will embrace “PKFP” the same way. The difference between “Pitit Deyò” (The Sidechick’s Kid) and “PKFP” is that the narrator for the first mourns over circumstances (illigimacy) beyond his or her control, and whereas “PKFP” is even more personal. When you listen to the lyrics, there’s some undercurrents of self-blame even.

In the video for the track, director ISmittyProduce gives us a shot of a crushed baby girl’s cup, and a weathered, beatdown book that looks like it may have been a pregnancy or expectant parent guide in dryer days. Then in-between scenes of the wifey delivering the news of infertility to the guy, we see a First Reader-type-of-book in flames. Some powerful visual metaphors.

It would have been even better to put a male and a female infertility storyline side-by-side to emphasize that infertility can stem from both sides. Have to mention though…the female lead in the video has a very supportive husband. He didn’t accompany her to the clinic to help her take in the infertility diagnosis, but at least he’s doing his share of chores in the house!

The main message of this song is that it takes a great many sacrifices to sustain true love. It may mean keeping your work, remembering your vows, even if this may mean never procreating with the person you love.

This band really went went out of their element for this track. So, like, bravo, and major—actually thunderous—applause for Gabel.

What time is it, children? It’s time for Kreyolicious Music Video…in which…in which I watch a music video by a Haitian artist or band and reveal my random thoughts as I watch it. Hooray! Today’s video? The Gabel PKFP Music Video! Let’s take a look!

Aw, a great and supportive husband who washes dishes! How wonderful. They must both work. He’s not going to let those dirty dishes pile up in the sink. What a nice boy.

Oh, no, looks like she has some disheartening news to deliver to him, or so the narrator tell us.

He listens as she speaks. Communication is the key.

Their hopes of being biological parents burnt in the flames.

Some nice metaphors with these images.

She breaks the unhappy news to him. But why didn’t he go with her to the clinic? Or perhaps this is a second visit, and they had gone together during the initial visit? Or maybe, it was just a routine OBGYN visit, and not specifically to check on her fertility? A routine check that revealed that she was infertile, perhaps? Got it.

They mourn together, and comfort one another. Blaming is not the key. Thank you couple for showing us a good example to follow should we ever have to face such a dire situation.

And a little bit of rap to make this sad song a little more upbeat.

So, after seven months of mourning, they decide to go to the adoption route.

It is to be noted from the expression on her face that she’s still disappointed over the infertility diagnosis. But look at his face…he’s trying to keep a positive and brave front for her.

I haven’t visited any adoptions agencies, but do they usually hire adorable-looking receptionists like this one here? Aw, look at his little fro.

Aw, an adoption questionnaire. That adoption agency has serious customer service. They must get an A on their JD Power and Associates survey markings!

A little bit more rap!

The nurse from the agency sure looks perky. A rather friendly adoption agency staff. But then the average adoption costs $18,000+ on average. Must be good to be getting a customer! And besides, adoption agencies need to have an empathetic staff. Imagine going through the emotional stress of infertility, and the long process of adoption, and having to deal with staff members with crabby attitudes! All the employees of this adoption agency should get a raise now!

The adoption papers have been drafted. She looks a bit more optimistic than she did earlier.

Another one of the video’s narrators remind us fidelity is the way to go—no matter what, and regardless of whichever circumstances.

She’s looking just a bit too happy here. But it is seven months later….The adoption has finalized. But is her happiness…..Wait…

So, if the baby was with him…she must be smiling about something else…

Could it be that…

A new pregnancy test! I knew it!

Watch as she analyzes the joy in his face. Aw, what a loving couple!

So, the moral of this story is…make adjustments in marriage. Have a spirit of sacrifice! Remember your vows, and with time, God will bless your relationship!
