Dominique was 69 years old when he was shot four times in the chest and neck as he arrived for work at Radio Haïti. A station employee named Jean-Claude Louissaint was also killed in the attack.
–
In the years following Dominique’s assassination, civil society and grassroots groups in Haiti held large public protests and sit-ins calling for justice. International human rights organizations, launched years-long campaigns demanding justice.
There have been several obstructions and irregularities in the investigation into the murders, originating in the police, parliament, and the executive branch.
In 2000, supporters of chief suspect Dany Toussaint, some of them armed, threatened to set fire to the courthouse, and in 2001, Toussaint (then a sitting senator for the Fanmi Lavalas party).
–
In December 2004, more than 75% of documents relating to the investigation disappeared from the Cour de Cassation (Haiti’s Supreme Court), several suspects and witnesses died mysteriously. In March 2015 Aristide’s former chief of security Oriel Jean was gunned down by unknown assailants, after which journalist Guy Delva released an interview in which Jean suggested that Aristide had ordered Dominique’s assassination. To date, nobody have never been brought to justice. –
On Christmas Day 2002, there was an attempt on Michèle Montas’s life, his widow, her bodyguard, Maxime Seïde, was murdered. Amid increasing threats to the safety of Radio Haïti’s journalists, the station closed for good in February 2003.

Ertha Pascal-Trouillot was the first female to be President of Haiti. She held office for 11 months, from March 13th 1990 and to February 7th 1991.
–
As a university student, she wanted to pursue a career in science but pursued it in law and politics, then became the country’s first woman lawyer. She was a judge in many federal courts from 1975 to 1988 before she finally became the first woman justice in the Supreme Court of Haiti. –
Mrs. Pascal-Trouillot became a lower-court judge in 1980 during the Duvalier dictatorship. While serving as Chief Justice she became the country’s provisional president on March 13, 1990, and was made responsible to organize a general election. It was to her credit that she could bring about violence-free elections which brought Jean Bertrand Aristide to the post of president with a 67% win.

President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the slum priest, resigned today under intense pressure from the United States and the threat of an invasion of the capital by armed insurgents, fleeing by jet at dawn under heavy American guard.
–
President Bush ordered the deployment of the Marines to Haiti as part of an “interim international force” to restore order. Both France and Canada have agreed to send troops, too. The United Nations Security Council met in emergency session to consider a resolution for a multinational force.
–
Mr. Aristide was once hailed as the man who could deliver peace and freedom to his nation, a slave nation that liberated itself 200 years ago from its imperial oppressor only to stifle under a blanket of strife and poverty. But his presidency crumbled as he violently cracked down on political dissent and armed rebels seized Haiti’s north this month. The Bush administration, which had earlier been reluctant to suggest that an elected president step down, has shifted its stance over the past several days, increasing the pressure and finally strongly urging him to step down.
