Kreyolicious: Tell us about yourself.
Started my Dj Career in 2001 and got noticed in 2005 with my first carnival remix Barikad Crew vs. Rock Fam [two bands based in Haiti]. Since 2005, I [have been a] DJ-producer with my [own] remixes in Haiti. In 2007-2008 i did my biggest operation on 106.5 FM Planet Kreyol that was one of the best years of my life. The year after that I [was part of] 94.5 FM radio MBC and a year later 106.5 SKY FM, two years down the line Energy FM. And in 2011, I participated in the Guiness DJ’s Competition in Haiti and won the virtual DJ category. In 2012-2016, I worked with the 94.5 FM / 22 RTVC (Radio Television Caraibes) and became an international DJ. I play everywhere.
Kreyolicious: How’d you become a DJ?
I became interested in playing through a friend who was a DJ at the time and invited me to his house. I started messing around [with] his equipment and fell in love with the feeling of mixing the beats and sounds together and could not resist since that date of 2001. [Ever since then] I [have been] DJ Jeffry mix.
Kreyolicious: What do you have on repeat play right now?
I play compas, racine, raboday, zouk, hip-hop, slow, reggae, dance-hall, soca, gospel, reaggaeton, rap kreyol, house, electronic, [and] dance music.
Kreyolicious: The current state of the music scene…what are your thought?
It’s become complicated because before people enjoyed the words to the songs being played. Now, its just the beat. The words are like they are meaningless. Too much profanity in the music and freaky dancing [that] gets you excited for nothing. So, I prefer when I first started [out] DJ[ing], but prefer the amount they pay now.
Kreyolicious: Where do you see your career five years from now?
I don’t really have an idea about [what my future holds] as a DJ because I’m thinking about branching out to other ventures. I’m a drone pilot. I have a lot of ideas in my mind but yes, I’ll still deejay. I’ll never leave my fans.
